Penguins vs. Maple Leafs Betting Odds, Pick, Prediction (October 23, 2021)
On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins will play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs at the PPG Paints Arena. The Maple Leafs are 2-2-1 on the season, while the Penguins are 2-0-2.
Let’s get into our Penguins vs. Maple Leafs betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this October 23, 2021 matchup.
Penguins-Maple Leafs Preview
The Penguins have been getting by on guts and guile. Somehow, they have not lost in regulation yet despite not having either Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin in the lineup. But, the injuries are mounting, Crosby isn’t back yet, which the team had hoped would be a possibility for tonight, and now you add Bryn Rust to the injured list and Jeff Carter, who had been playing top line center, to the COVID-19 protocol list, and all of the sudden, the Penguins are really thin up front.
Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs got their top goal scorer back recently, adding Auston Matthews earlier this week, but the Leafs have dropped both games Matthews played, and because of some funkiness with their early-season schedule played their first two games on back to back nights – having to travel for the second game, played their middle two games with just one off day, and are now playing their next two games also on back-to-back nights with the team having to travel the second night.
It makes this matchup that much harder to handicap, but we’ll give you the bets we think will give you the best chance of coming to fruition in this one.

Bets We Like with a Maple Leafs Win
Maple Leafs win AND 6-plus total goals scored (+175, BetMGM)
With the Penguins bereft of offensive players, they will look to play a defensive-minded game, much like they did against Dallas earlier this week, losing 2-1 in a shootout Tuesday. The difference here is Toronto has more offensive firepower than Dallas, and conversely, Toronto isn’t as good a defensive team as Dallas, so even if the Penguins are a bit more conservative, they should still score at least a couple times, if not more.
Toronto is favored in this game for a reason. If Pittsburgh were healthy, that wouldn’t be the case, but seeing as it is, the Leafs should have enough to pull out the win after a couple of losses in a row, but Pittsburgh isn’t going to make it easy for them to do that.

These are good odds to jump on since Rodrigues will now be thrust into the top line center role with the three big centers out of the lineup. He’ll play more minutes than usual, will play with better players than usual and likely will get some power play time on the top unit as well. He’ll have his chances, so why not take a shot with these longer odds than are usually offered to a top line center?

CLAIM OFFERHe’s arguably the best goal scorer in the NHL and he didn’t score a goal in either of his first two games. It’s only a matter of time before he does, so why not tonight? The odds aren’t great at -115, but then again, the oddsmakers think it’s likely he scores too. Worth it to risk the extra juice to get this squeeze.

Penguins vs. Maple Leafs Prediction
This is definitely a weird game to try and get a good take on. With both teams at full strength, without quirky scheduling, it would honestly be a must-see game. Instead we’re likely to get a lot of uncertainty, which leads to mistakes, which leads to goals. We’ll take the healthier team, but wouldn’t be surprised if it slinks to overtime or shootout to determine a winner.
Prediction: Maple Leafs 4, Penguins 3
