They’ll have a tough task as they have to try to snap the small skid against the Edmonton Oilers (15-5-0), at Rogers Place. It’s the first of two meetings between the teams this season.

Right now, Tristan Jarry is carrying the Penguins. Their No. 1 goaltender keeps them in almost every game he starts and has won every game Pittsburgh has won this season. His 1.85 goals against average ranks third in the NHL among qualifying goalies while his .938 save percentage is tied for second in the league.

Pittsburgh’s offense has been up and down all season. It goes through stretches where it’s very fruitful and then it goes through stretches where it struggles mightily. The latter has been the case more recently as the Penguins have been held to two goals or fewer in five of their last nine games.

Meanwhile, Edmonton continues to thrive based on the incredible offensive production of Leon Draisaitl (40 points) and Connor McDavid (36 points) through 20 games. Draisaitl is averaging one goal and one assist in each game. The Oilers power play is truly lethal. It’s the top unit in the NHL and it scores on 37.7% of its opportunities.

They do allow 2.95 goals per game. Mikko Koskinen is 11-2-0 in goal, but he’s winning with a 2.89 goals against average and a .912 save percentage, which are pedestrian numbers. Pittsburgh has the talent to score with Edmonton. Not to mention, the Penguins have won each of their last six games as underdogs after coming off a shootout.
