On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-3-4) come back home after a quick one game road trip for their ninth home game in their first 12 contests. They will host the Florida Panthers (10-2-1) at PPG Paints Arena. It will be the second of three meetings between the two teams this season. The Panthers defeated Pittsburgh in overtime 5-4 on Oct. 14.

After missing three games due to an injury, Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky will be back between the pipes tonight, which is a huge boost for the Panthers.

So far this season, Bobrovsky has an unblemished record of 6-0-0 with a 1.72 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. He has only allowed more than two goals in a game once all season.

Meanwhile, the Penguins are still without Evgeni Malkin (knee), Sidney Crosby (Covid Protocol) and Brian Doumolin (Covid protocol). Defensemen Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwadel skated with the team for the first time since leaving the Covid protocol and both will be a game-time decision.

After a slow start and missing a couple games, Guentzel is back on track to be the top quality player he is. He’s amassed eight points in 10 games and set up Jeff Carter for two beauties. The Penguins and close games sort of go hand-in-hand this season. They’ve already lost four games that required extra time to play and can hang around with the best teams in the NHL. Tristan Jarry has been solid in net and for Pittsburgh and we’ve already documented the return of Bobrovsky, which when you combine the two, means good defense, good goaltending and not a lot of scoring.
