On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-3-4) come back home after a quick one game road trip for their ninth home game in their first 12 contests. They will host the Florida Panthers (10-2-1) at PPG Paints Arena. It will be the second of three meetings between the two teams this season. The Panthers defeated Pittsburgh in overtime 5-4 on Oct. 14.
Let’s get into our Penguins vs. Panthers betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this November 11, 2021 matchup.
If you want to be an optimist, the Penguins stole a point from Chicago Tuesday as Jeff Carter scored two third period goals to force overtime before Pittsburgh eventually lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in a shootout. If you want to be a pessimist, the Penguins lost to a team that had fired their coach just days earlier and was off to one of the worst starts in the NHL.
With not much time to think about it, the Penguins are right back at it tonight, and while they also will be playing a team with a different coach that started the season for them, the Florida Panthers are not a bad team. Far from it. They are one of the best teams in hockey so far, and have the talent to reach the Stanley Cup Final.
After missing three games due to an injury, Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky will be back between the pipes tonight, which is a huge boost for the Panthers.
So far this season, Bobrovsky has an unblemished record of 6-0-0 with a 1.72 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. He has only allowed more than two goals in a game once all season.
Meanwhile, the Penguins are still without Evgeni Malkin (knee), Sidney Crosby (Covid Protocol) and Brian Doumolin (Covid protocol). Defensemen Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwadel skated with the team for the first time since leaving the Covid protocol and both will be a game-time decision.

Bets We Like with a Penguins Win
Penguins to win AND under 6.5 goals (+255, DraftKings Sportsbook)
The odds in this game are almost identical, except flipped, as it was for the Penguins when they went into Chicago the other night. The Blackhawks ambushed them for a couple goals early, and then hung on after a Pittsburgh surge to win in a shootout. A very similar circumstance could arise here, and once again have to do with a goalie.
The Penguins struggled to score against long-time netminder and beloved player Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 42 saves to get the win for the Blackhawks.
This time its about playing against a goalie coming off an injury who might need a period before he gets back on top of his game. That creates a short window of opportunity fore the Penguins to try to sneak a few goals past him,. We think they will – just enough to win.

Bets We Like with a Panthers Win
Aaron Ekblad over 0.5 points (+100, FanDuel Sportsbook)
Yes, it’s even money…. we know. But, the fact is, Ekblad is putting up points for the Panthers in bunches. Not to mention, when Ekblad registers at least one point, the Panthers are 7-0-1. On the downside Ekblad has gone three straight games without a point, his longest drought of the season. However, he needs to get back on track offensively, and will likely not disappoint for a fourth straight game.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome
Jake Guentzel to score at least one goal (+170, BetMGM)
After a slow start and missing a couple games, Guentzel is back on track to be the top quality player he is. He’s amassed eight points in 10 games and set up Jeff Carter for two beauties. You can tell Guentzel is starting to be comfortable again in a top line role. Two assists Tuesday was the first big step. Getting to translate those into at least one goal should happen against Florida and give you a solid payout.

Penguins vs. Panthers Prediction
The Penguins and close games sort of go hand-in-hand this season. They’ve already lost four games that required extra time to play and can hang around with the best teams in the NHL. Tristan Jarry has been solid in net and for Pittsburgh and we’ve already documented the return of Bobrovsky, which when you combine the two, means good defense, good goaltending and not a lot of scoring.
Prediction: Penguins 3, Coyotes 2
