Penguins vs. Senators Betting

On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins (5-3-4) play the front-ended of  back-to-back road games in the capitol cities of both Canada and the U.S. It starts when they visit the Ottawa Senators (3-9-1) at Canadian Tire Centre. It’s the first of three meetings between the teams this season.

Let’s get into our Penguins vs. Senators betting pick with player prop predictions, odds, and analysis for this November 13, 2021 matchup.

Penguins-Senators Preview

The Penguins continue to be a plucky team with so many players out of the lineup. They looked sloppy against a bad Chicago team on Tuesday, but were able to steal a point after Jeff Carter scored a pair of goals in the third period to force overtime, but then the Penguins played an excellent team game, got 36 saves from Tristan Jarry and were able to upset Florida 3-2 in a shootout Thursday.

The Penguins are Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates this season, as from one game to the next, you never know what you are going to get.

Meanwhile, the Senators have been a bit of a disappointment so far. They were supposed to be an up-and-coming team, and still may be, but are experiencing significant growing pains.

The Senators have lost six straight (0-5-1) and have been a dreadful defensive team in the process. They’ve allowed 33 goals in their last eight games (1-6-1).

Offensively, they haven’t been much better, scoring just six goals in their last four games.

Bets We Like with a Penguins Win

Penguins to win AND over 5.5 goals (+185, DraftKings Sportsbook)

[bet-promo id=”23817″ ]

If Pittsburgh can think of Ottawa like they do Tampa Bay, or Florida, or Philadelphia, they should coast to victory. However, the Penguins have also played down to some opponents as well. There is always the worry that this could be a look ahead game with Washington waiting for them in D.C. Sunday, and it’s likely you’ll see Casey deSmith in net rather than Jarry. But those reasons are the compelling reasons that this game exceed 5.5. goals.

The reason we like the Penguins is they do have a knack for the net, even without their best players. With Ottawa being so giving in their own end (albeit slightly better in their last two games against Boston and Los Angeles) this game has a flavor of a higher scoring affair. So, bet the favorite and the over in the parlay, get yourself some better odds value, and take it to the bank.

Bets We Like with a Senators Win

Drake Batherson over 0.5 goals (+250, FanDuel Sportsbook)

[bet-promo id=”23805″ ]

Batherson has been one of the better Senators during their losing skid, so if it’s going to come to an end on home ice, they’re going to need him to keep his play elevated. He’s mostly picking up assists, but Batherson has a nice shot and has five goals this season, albeit just one in the past seven games. He’s due to put one in the net and if he does, it could go a long way toward helping his team end an ugly winless drought.

Bets We Like Independent of Outcome

The most total goals will be scored in the second period (+160, BetMGM)

[bet-promo id=”24578″ ]

Both teams are averaging scoring more than a goal in the second period. It is the Senators best offensive period of the three, and they also give up, on average, more than a goal in the second period. Pittsburgh is a little more stingy, but considering the Senators have scored just five goals in the third period all season and the first period is usually a bit of a feeling out process when teams play each other for the first time, we think the middle stanza is where the value is here.

Penguins vs. Senators Prediction

[bet-promo id=”23812″ ]

The Penguins don’t really blow anyone out, nor do they find themselves on the wrong end of a butt-whooping. But the Senators are in a bit of a bad way at the moment, and with Pittsburgh being a better and more structured team, we expect them to be able to do what they should do in this one, although we will give Ottawa a few goals against the Penguins backup goalie.

Prediction: Penguins 5, Senators 3
