PHN EXTRA: Center Spot Opens For Derek Grant, For Now
CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The numbers on the first day of Pittsburgh Penguins training camp favored newcomer Derek Grant.
Signed to a one-year, $650,000 deal a couple weeks after the main free agency frenzy in July, Grant was, perhaps, the team’s sixth center, behind Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Derick Brassard, Riley Sheahan and Matt Cullen. But he still signed, thrilled to join such a top-flight organization.
Friday, that number waned.
