PHN EXTRA: Penguins Have Chance to ‘Knock Out’ Columbus

Published

PITTSBURGH — The next two games don’t need an introduction or nor will the players need a fiery pep talk for inspiration. The Pittsburgh Penguins begin a home-and-home series with their nearest playoff-position pursuer and division rival Columbus Blue Jackets, Thursday at PPG Paints Arena.

The Penguins have gained a two-point advantage in the playoff chase, but the next two games are affectionately known as “four-point games.” If the Penguins are able to win both in regulation, the Penguins would claim a commanding six-point lead with just 14 games remaining. That sort of lead at this point in the season is the kind which can demoralize the team on the bottom.

Penguins defenseman Jack Johnson knows this well.
