PHN Video: Mike Sullivan Firing, Digging Into the Reasons

Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now was in the locker room covering the Penguins all season and up close with Mike Sullivan.

Kingerski dug into what went into Kyle Dubas’s decision to fire Sullivan Monday, what was said, and what went unsaid. The full discussion, from the curious Sullivan decisions that seemed to run counter to Dubas’s mission, in addition to the stated reasons for the sides to part ways.

According to Kingerski, the team’s lackluster performances were the start of the incongruity between the team and the coach, and Dubas began pondering the move during the season. However, Kingerski firmly believes the lineup decisions that didn’t improve the situation and kept some young players out of the lineup were the unspoken evidence that solidified the move (14:06).
