PHN’s Pittsburgh Penguins GM for a Day Contest

Pittsburgh Penguins coverage Pittsburgh Hockey Now

Admit it, to a certain degree we are all armchair GMs. Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager Jim Rutherford has the most second-guessed job among the Penguins fan base. And sometimes you are right.

We were inspired by our colleagues from Colorado Hockey Now who have profiled their subscribers for feature pieces, but let’s be honest, you and I don’t have that type of relationship. What we do well is talk about hockey. So, we want your thoughts, opinions, and analysis of the Penguins current situation.

What would you do if you were the Penguins GM for 24 hours and had total control?

Over the past several weeks, PHN has analyzed the Penguins situation from every angle. We have laid out the expected costs for the Penguins RFAs Marcus Pettersson and Zach Aston-Reese (ok, we nailed Aston-Reese’s value according to Hockey Graphs but were a little high on Pettersson). We have laid out the path for the Penguins to get under the cap without making a significant trade. And we’ve laid out three trade scenarios in which the Penguins could save money.

Now, it is your turn. For real.

There are a few rules for this contest. First, you can’t make trades but you can make offers. You are bound by the NHL salary cap rules and the CBA. We will clean up submissions before publishing, so no vulgarity or ugly hate, if possible. And keep the submissions under 1000 words but make sure they are at least 200 words. Bullet points are fine as long as you write a few thoughts, too. You don’t have to be a subscriber to enter, this is free to all!

Email submissions to nationalhockeynow@gmail.com

You will also vote on the winner via Twitter and Facebook. We do reserve the right to not publish submissions based on various factors including insanity (if you’re making an offer for Connor McDavid, step away from the keyboard). Someone has to be in charge of this rodeo, so that’s us.

The winner will get fame, and fortune and everything that goes with it (No not really). But you will get to choose one of my bobbleheads or a $25.00 Redbeard’s gift certificate. Or, if you really want–you can be a guest on one of my Penguins Live chats (why?!)

So, click on the Redbeard’s banner above to make sure they stick around, too! Check out the daily specials and stop by for a happy hour or all-you-can-eat hot wings on Wednesday.

Not bad a haul for simply banging out what you think the Pittsburgh Penguins can or should do, is it? It’s not like you won’t opine about the topic on the barstool or social media anyway.

So–have at it! We’ll start publishing submissions later this week. Since we’re not sure if we’ll get five or 500 submissions, we’ll set a voting date later this week, too. I can’t wait to read our thoughts. Bombs away!
