The final phase of the Pittsburgh Penguins season began on Wednesday. It was the team’s first practice since the NHL trade deadline on Monday and the Penguins acquisition of C/RW Jeff Carter. And yes, we specifically wrote the slashed position description.
Wednesday’s practice included more than the usual small changes. Head coach Mike Sullivan said he would start Carter at center, but the stacked second line was a bit of a surprise.
“This is going to be a little bit of an exploration process here till we figure out what we think is the best combination and where people fit to make us the most competitive,” Sullivan said.
So, the first observation is a freebie. What we saw today may not stick past tomorrow.
