Nylander Returns to Wilkes-Barre (Of Course, He Does)

The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned forward Alex Nylander to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre.

He had been on emergency recall since Friday, and scored the Penguins’ first goal in their 5-1 victory at Detroit Saturday.

Nylander filled in for Drew O’Connor, who apparently was injured during the Penguins’ 4-1 victory against Minnesota Thursday, in the Red Wings game.

The decision to send him back to Wilkes-Barre suggests that the Penguins expect O’Connor to be available when they face Chicago in the regular-season home finale Tuesday at 7:08 p.m.

Alex Nylander has a goal and an assist in seven games with the Pittsburgh Penguins this season.

Have never seen a fan base over react to minor leaguers as much as this one does.

Correct. He has been as productive as Granlund and they want him ran out of town. Just because Nylander is younger people expect him to be better.

Umm..no…since he IS younger, we want to give him a long look to see if he can GET better. There’s a difference.

On the oldest team in the league, with a GM who continues to load up on expensive older talent, finding guys like Nylander, Drew O’Connor, and Mark Friedman on cheap contracts who add qualities like speed, tenacity, and desperation to keep their roster, is very important. I get the comment about over reaction, but given the overall context criticism is definitely warranted.

Granlund, DOC, Nylander, Poehling, and Carter. Are five of the bottom six for next year already on the roster?

Honestly Hextall and Burke won’t last much longer. I expect them both to be fired next week when we miss the playoffs for the first time in 17 year’s (16 in a row). The decision to add Granlund had been a borderline disaster! Everyone is beating around the bush but with his level of play we should’ve received draft capital to take on that contract. Honestly he’s a replacement level player on a team with too many of that type. I just don’t understand this regimes thinking at all. They contradict themselves saying they were gonna get younger and harder… Read more »
