Pittsburgh Penguins, Ty Hennes

Pittsburgh Penguins assistant Ty Hennes has been named to the same position on the Team USA staff for the upcoming IIHF World Championship, USA Hockey announced Friday.

The team will be coached by John Hynes of the Minnesota Wild. Hynes is a former Penguins minor-league coach.

The Worlds will be held May 10-26 in Czechia.

Hennes has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Penguins, and he has been with the team the past nine seasons. He previously was the club’s skills development coach and became known for working with players who were coming back from injury. He began spending some games behind the bench before coach Mike Sullivan elevated him to an assistant coach.

This is Hennes’ first gig as a Team USA assistant coach, although he was with USA Hockey as an American Development Model regional manager from 2013-15.

The other assistants named to the Team USA staff are Derek Lalonde of the Detroit Red Wings, Jack Capuano of the Ottawa Senators and Greg Moore of USA Hockey. Alex Westwood of the Red Wings will serve as the goaltending coach, and Mike King of Ottawa will serve as the video coach.
