Penguins’ Final Third-Rounder Might Be a Hit Someday

Brady Peddle

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a pressing need for physicality on their defense corps, and it’s unlikely that Brady Peddle will be able to help much in the short term.

There is, however, reason to believe that Peddle, who they claimed with the last of their three third-round choices (No. 91 overall) at the NHL Draft Saturday in Los Angeles, could provide some muscle in a few years, if he continues to develop.

Peddle is 6-foot-3, 202 pounds and a left-handed shot.

He is reputed to have a solid two-way game, although there seems to be nothing spectacular about his offensive performance, as evidenced by his totals of three goals and seven assists in 62 games with Waterloo of the United States Hockey League last season.

Perhaps more significantly, however, is that scouts have noted his penchant for delivering big open-ice hits and for making life unpleasant for opponents who venture near his team’s net.

Consider this assessment from the Elite Prospects draft guide:

“Opponents know when Peddle is on the ice. Crushing open-ice hits, net-front maulings, overpowering crunches into the wall — if there’s a way to win a battle and inflict pain, he’ll find it. He complements the physicality with aggressive step-ups, quick rotations and frequent communication.”

Peddle has committed to play at Michigan State in 2026.
