On Monday, the Pittsburgh Penguins and local health care provider UPMC will begin a series of COVID-19 vaccination clinics at PPG Paints Arena.

From the Pittsburgh Penguins Press Release:

UPMC and the Pittsburgh Penguins will kick off the first in a series of COVID-19 vaccination clinics Monday at PPG Paints Arena.

“We’re really excited about the partnership between UPMC and the Pittsburgh Penguins and are grateful to the Pens for generously offering their arena and space to UPMC as we vaccinate community members,” said Mark Sevco, president, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. “So far, UPMC has administered more than 230,000 doses and we are averaging around 22,000 shots each week. We will do great work with the Pens support at PPG Paints Arena and the UPMC Lemieux Sports complex in the coming weeks.”

“UPMC is not only a valued partner to us but also to the Pittsburgh community,” said Penguins president and CEO David Morehouse. “The Penguins have the space at PPG Paints Arena and the experience to accommodate large groups efficiently. With UPMC’s guidance, we already have trained workers and strict anti-COVID cleaning protocols for the limited fans that have been coming to our games. Together with UPMC’s experts, we can help to distribute the vaccine at a quicker pace, and more safely to those who need it most.”

Monday’s vaccination clinic is the first in a series of planned events with the Pittsburgh Penguins at various locations.

In February, UPMC launched a website to pre-register those eligible under Pennsylvania’s phase 1A guidelines. The site already has registered more than 350,000. UPMC is actively contacting registrants to schedule appointments as quickly as the vaccine becomes available.

For all clinics, an appointment is required and walk-in requests cannot be accommodated. Eligible members of the community are encouraged to register at vaccine.upmc.com to be contacted for future vaccination events.
