Pittsburgh Penguins center and captain Sidney Crosby has opted out of Friday night’s Skills Competition in San Jose because of illness, the NHL announced.

The league said Crosby plans to participate in the weekend’s main event, the All-Star Game, Sunday.

While there were no details about Crosby’s illness, a check of social media shows that a stomach ailment has hit several people who are in San JOse for the All-Star weekend.

Crosby and defenseman Kris Letang are the Penguins’ two All-Star representatives. Neither participated Thursday night in a media event for the All-Stars, but they were among several players who were not there.

The Penguins, whose bye week led up to the All-Star weekend, don’t play again until Monday when the New Jersey Devils visit PPG Paints Arena.

A news website in Wyoming reported that Crosby spent some of his downtime this week in Jackson Hole.
