CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Olli Maatta’s two young charges were testing him, dodging in and out of the racks at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and he was smiling like the dickens. “They’re playing hide and seek,” the defenseman said as he tried to keep track of the children he was helping at the team’s annual Salvation Army “Project Bundle Up” outing.

One or two disadvantaged middle school students were assigned to each Penguins player, and they shopped for winter clothing and accessories. There also were laughs, autographs and silliness at a photo booth.
