Pittsburgh Penguins Jack St. Ivany

The Pittsburgh Penguins made a couple of roster moves Tuesday, including re-assigning struggling young defenseman Jack St. Ivany to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.

The right-handed St. Ivany made his NHL debut late last season, creating a stable third-pairing with Ryan Shea on the left, as the Penguins went on a late season run, nearly erasing a nine-point deficit before falling short after 81 games.

St. Ivany, 25, has struggled this season. In 14 games, he has one assist and is a minus-3, including numerous mistakes leading to goals against. The Penguins signed him as a college free agent in 2022 after the Philadelphia Flyers failed to secure his rights after they drafted him in the fourth round of the 2018 draft.

Coincidentally, former GM Ron Hextall drafted St. Ivany as the Flyers’ GM and later signed him as the Penguins’ GM. St. Ivany is waivers exempt.

The Penguins needed to clear a roster space because they activated Cody Glass from IR. The team acquired Glass via trade in August, and he’s played at numerous spots in the lineup in his first 14 games.

Glass, 26, has four assists this season but has not yet scored his first Penguins goal. He’s been in concussion protocol since colliding with teammate Lars Eller on Nov. 7.
