Team USA survived a late-game scare before rallying to defeat Sweden, 4-3, at the world championships in Tampere, Finland Tuesday.

Penguins center Nick Bonino, who is the U.S. captain, scored his team’s first goal and Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith stopped 23 of 26 shots, as the Swedes forced overtime by scoring twice in the final six minutes of regulation.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dylan Samberg scored the game-winning goal at 1:37 of the extra period.

Bonino’s goal was his third in the tournament, while DeSmith is 4-0, with a 1.49 goals-against average and .942 save percentage.

The U.S. went 7-0 in Group A, the first time it has posted a perfect record in group play. The tournament quarterfinals begin Thursday.
