WATCH: What Will the Penguins Do? Malkin Suspended, Maatta Out

What will the Penguins do with Evgeni Malkin and what will the team do without Olli Maatta in the lineup? Malkin was suspended for one game by the NHL Department of Player Safety for a swinging his stick at Philadelphia Flyers forward Michael Raffle.

Malkin called Raffl “dirty” but also seemed to call his play dirty, as well.

“We had a battle. I think he played dirty. He smacked me behind my head,” said Malkin. “I didn’t try to hit his face and I know I wasn’t playing smart.”

“I know it’s dirty but my stick missed his helmet and shoulder,” Malkin continued. “He dove and the referee gave me five minutes. It wasn’t dangerous. He wasn’t bleeding.”

Also Tuesday, the Penguins announced Olli Maatta would be out indefinitely after sustaining a separated shoulder injury. Dan looks at the Penguins defensive situation, who the Penguins coaches may lean on and why.
