Dan’s Daily: Draft Rankings Intrigue, Replacing Penguins UFAs

Pittsburgh Penguins Tristan Jarry and Brian Dumoulin

There will be a few more twists and turns, but the cream is rising in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. The Carolina “Red Army” Hurricanes destroyed the New Jersey Devils. Dave Molinari looked at the Pittsburgh Penguins UFAs and free agents who could replace them. P.O Joseph was tabbed to Team Canada, is Sergei Bobrovsky in Ilya Samsonov’s head, and the most interesting NHL trade rumor I’ve heard involves the Colorado Avalanche.

We begin week two in Las Vegas. It’s nice to get my league context back. It’s really enhancing my Penguins analysis/perceptions as I see more of the rest of the world, again (I came from a “league coverage” position before 93-7 the Fan and PHN).

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It’s “only” the World Championship, but Team Canada selected P.O Joseph.

Penguins prospect, former NCAA free agent, goalie Filip Lindberg bolted to Finland after two years.

Dave Molinari looked at who could replace the Penguins’ UFAs.

Steelers Now:

This should be music to many ears. A “big, physical, tough” Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

The Pirates lost to the Toronto Blue Jays. From Andrew McCutchen and Ji-Hwan Bae, here’s an update on the latest Pittsburgh Pirates injuries.

NHL Playoffs, Trade Chatter, & National Hockey Now:

NHL.com: Carolina looked like the Russians circa the 1970s. They control the puck and work in five-man units with smooth precision and movement. They blasted the Devils 6-1.

Colorado Hockey Now: This makes a lot of sense. The NHL trade rumors might pick up for the rights to Jonathan Toews. He makes good sense for the Colorado Avalanche.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Hockey Hall of Fame for Carey Price?

LA Hockey Now: Hey, no more excuses. It’s time for the LA Kings prospect to step forward.

Washington Hockey Now: Youth? Experience? What will the new coach look like for the Washington Capitals?

Boston Hockey Now: Jim Montgomery is a Jack Adams finalist.

TSN: Florida has a 2-0 lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Is Bobrovsky in Samsonov’s head?

Florida Hockey Now: Sam Bennett roughed up the Maple Leafs. Friday, the NHL roughed up Bennett’s wallet, but no suspension.

TSN: Yes, this could affect the Penguins. Bob McKenzie’s updated NHL Draft Rankings have some changes near the top.
