NHL trade talk, Vegas Golden Knights win in OT, Pittsburgh Penguins GM search continues

The Pittsburgh Penguins are on the NHL’s GM carousel. Soon the music will stop, and so will the spinning. The Calgary Flames stayed internal for their new GM, the Toronto Maple Leafs are moving forward, and some surprising names are turning up as possibilities. Canada lost at the World Championships, while Team USA is getting goals by the bunch from Penguins forward Drew O’Connor.

This time shift is silly. I popped awake at 5 a.m. and panicked because “it’s already 8 a.m. back east!”

Then I realized — I am back east, you idiot. The world was much simpler when I had one website. Just me and a goal, you know?

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Hello, old friend. The Penguins welcomed back to the arena and locker room No. 68, Jaromir Jagr.

If you say it out loud, you can almost hear John Barbero’s goal call.

As they should, Team USA “brie”-zed by France at World Championships, 9-0. Drew O’Connor continued filling the net, too.

And the GM carousel turns. If you missed it yesterday, the Penguins do want to talk to Kyle Dubas.

Steelers Now:

Mike Tomlin expects Kenny Picket to “kill it” this season. Steelers camp.

Who are the five candidates to fill the final Steelers roster spot?

Early on, Ben Roethlisberger didn’t root for Kenny Pickett?

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

The recap: Yuck. Ugly defense. Ugly score. The Diamondbacks bit the Pittsburgh Pirates Sunday, 8-3.

Roansy Conteras isn’t controlling what should be the easiest pitch to control.

Another extremely tough test is coming up for your Pittsburgh Pirates.

NHL Trade, Playoffs, News & National Hockey Now:

Vegas Hockey Now: Theft. Robbery. The VGK had 10 shots after two periods. 10?! Yet they held Dallas Stars to only 17 and had a few more scoring chances. It was “go time” later in the third period and the first two minutes of overtime. The Vegas Golden Knights won again.

Snap analysis. Up 2-0. Here’s how the Golden Knights are doing it.

Florida Hockey Now: The Heat pummeled the Celtics and lead the series 2-0. It’s the Florida Panthers’ turn to go up 3-0.

Calgary Hockey Now: The Flames named Craig Conroy their new GM, and the move is receiving praise from all corners. The Calgary Flames scoop.

LA Hockey Now: Viktor Arvidsson on the NHL trade block. Austin Stanovich examines what the LA Kings can get.

Also from Sportsnet — Why Brad Treliving is a top candidate for the Maple Leafs GM post.

TSN’s Craig Button put George McPhee in the mix, but the video is blocked for U.S. viewers.

Philly Hockey Now: In the smoldering wreckage following consecutive regimes of Ron Hextall and Chuck Fletcher, there are some keepers, like Noah Cates, on the Philadelphia Flyers.

Colorado Hockey Now: In his final season, Patrick Roy led his QMJHL Quebec Ramparts to a championship.
