The Pittsburgh Penguins had a sleepy start in their crucial game against the Philadelphia Flyers Sunday at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins lacked much energy and puck possession, but then the hockey gods smiled upon them and Rickard Rakell.

If the Penguins go on a tear in their final five games, circle the “glass goal.”

Midway through the first period, Rakell unleashed a wicked one-timer in the slot. The shot sailed over the net, caromed hard off the glass, and floated over the crossbar toward Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson.

Ersson either didn’t see it or misplayed it. The puck hit the goalie and dropped into the net.

“I was bummed. I shot at least three feet over the net,” Rakell said. “And then I was just as surprised to see it go in. So I’ll take it.”
