Pittsburgh Penguins, Igor Shesterkin taunts Pens

Things did not go well for the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. Sidney Crosby, John Marino, and Radim Zohorna were sick (non-COVID). The New York Rangers beat them for the third time in two weeks. Igor Shesterkin had an answer for the Penguins best scoring chances.

On Thursday, New York beat the Penguins 3-0 at Madison Square Garden, but things got chippy late in the third.

Old school hockey message sending, you know.

Penguins defenseman Mark Friedman was in the lineup. He’s been platooning with Marcus Pettersson, but Marino’s illness guaranteed the Penguins resident pot-stir a lineup spot on Thursday.

Things heated when Penguins fourth-line forward Anthony Angello leveled Tyler Motte later in the third period. Motte had his head down, and Angello was on his way to make contact, but Angello’s hit contacted the shoulder/head area, and Motte laid on the ice after the hit.

During a late third period Penguins power play, Evgeni Malkin and Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow tangled. Mark Friedman subsequently tangled with a couple of Rangers. And, at the final horn, Friedman got a good shot on Krieder again.

Bodies hit the ice, and the Pittsburgh Penguins did not leave the ice for a few minutes, thus delaying the Rangers customary center-ice celebration after wins.

Shesterkin, who stopped all 30 shots, bid the Penguins adieu. The goalie mockingly waved goodbye as the Penguins began to exit.
