Penguins Injury Update: Nedeljkovic Out Weeks; Growing List of Hurts
The Pittsburgh Penguins’ injury and absence list grew a little longer on Wednesday; most notable will be goalie Alex Nedjkovic’s extended absence.
According to coach Mike Sullivan, Nedeljkovic will be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury. He left the game against the Detroit Red Wings in the first period Monday night. He visibly grabbed his midsection before leaving the game moments later.
Joel Blomqvist relieved Nedeljkovic and allowed only one goal on 19 shots against Detroit’s NHL lineup.
Vasily Ponomarev left the Penguins game in the second period Tuesday night. The team now lists him as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Blake Lizotte, who was struck in the head by an errant puck while he sat on the bench during the game Sunday against the Ottawa Senators at the Sudbury Community Center, has been diagnosed with a concussion. The Penguins will further update his status when appropriate.
Penguins forward Bryan Rust missed practice Wednesday, but the team reported it was simply a maintenance day.
The quartet above joins the pre-existing injured list headlined by Erik Karlsson, who resumed skating on Tuesday
