The Pittsburgh Penguins injury list is getting long enough that coach Mike Sullivan needed some help remembering all of the players currently out and their statuses.

The Penguins’ lines were jumbled mightily Saturday in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at PPG Paints Arena. Joona Koppanen was recalled and immediately installed as the fourth-line center in place of the injured Noel Acciari. Acciari is traveling with the team on the three-game trip but is not skating.

P.O Joseph, who remains on injured reserve, participated in the optional morning skate but remains on IR.

RW Rickard Rakell is on LTIR. He skated before practice at the UPMC Lemieux Complex on Sunday and is with the team. Sullivan said right-handed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel is also with the team and has resumed skating, though Ruhwedel was not part of the optional skate.

Matt Nieto, who was placed on IR Sunday afternoon, is not with the team. Alex Nylander was recalled to fill Nieto’s roster spot.

If POJ is still injured, why didn;t they put him on LTIR to get some cap relief? Or would that not help at all?

Because Rakell has already taken up the LTIR space over the cap, adding P.O would not give them more.

If you’re getting $5.5M as head coach, you should be intimately aware of the status of all of the players, it’s kind of important.
