CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. – It’s a footnote that Pittsburgh Penguins fans might already have forgotten about, but perhaps it’s worth a refresher. Who scored the team’s first goal this season?
Give yourself a black and gold star if you remembered it was defenseman Jamie Oleksiak. The same Jamie Oleksiak who had seven goals, 20 points in 114 games spread out over several seasons with Dallas before the Penguins picked him up around midseason in 2017-18. The Jamie Oleksiak who brought size (6 feet 7, 255 pounds) and defensive awareness but never quite settled in to what the Stars expected when they drafted him 14th overall in 2011.
