Will St. Ivany Become a Hit On Penguins’ Blue Line? (+)

CRANBERRY — The Pittsburgh Penguins have no way of knowing for certain whether defenseman Jack St. Ivany is ready for steady work in the NHL.

After all, he’s only in his second season of pro hockey and never has competed at this level. Heck, he hadn’t spent a minute on a major-league roster until the Penguins recalled him from their American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Friday.

Nonetheless, the Penguins have some pretty good reasons for wanting to see where St. Ivany is in his development, and to do it now. To wit:
