(UPDATED) Penguins Recall Harkins, Then Return Him; P.O Joseph to IR

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Jansen Harkins from their farm team in Wilkes-Barre and placed defenseman P.O Joseph on injured reserve Saturday.

Harkins’ stay with the parent club didn’t last long, however. Shortly before the start of their game against Carolina, the Penguins announced that he had been sent back to Wilkes-Barre.

He did stick around long enough, however, to take part in warmups before the Penguins and Hurricanes played.

Harkins, who was claimed off waivers from Winnipeg in October, did not have a point in four games before being assigned to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate last month.

Joseph has not dressed for the past five games — Mike Sullivan said today that he has been bothered by an unspecified lower-body injury — and was scheduled to miss his sixth in a row when the Penguins take on Carolina tonight.

If that’s the best we have available in WBS we’re in deep trouble.

Perhaps he was recalled so they can put him thru waivers again in hope he is claimed to take his salary off the cap

It was salary cap maneuvering, like when they recalled Gruden. Both moves are so they can recall Nedeljkovic, I am guessing.
