The Pittsburgh Penguins have placed bottom-six forward Jonathan Gruden on waivers.

If he is not claimed by another team by 2 p.m. Tuesday, they can assign him to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre, although they would be allowed to keep him on the NHL roster.

Gruden, 23, has one goal and no assists in 11 games with the Penguins this season. He also has put up 13 goals and 10 assists in 41 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The Penguins acquired him from Ottawa in the trade that sent goalie Matt Murray to the Senators in 2020.

Hopefully he can stay healthy and not dislocate his shoulder on I 80, from Wilkes to Pittsburgh.

Gruden was a player the Pens need on their fourth line- he hustled, played well defensively, and there is a chance he’d improve offensively. Plus, he was cheap, lol
Once again, Sullivan and the coaching staff misuse another potential decent 3/4th liner. E.g., include Lafferty, Sunqvist, Blueger- even Zohorna buried in WB should be up in the NHL. I’m surprised they haven’t screwed up O’Connor and Puustinen yet.
Get rid of Smith, Carter and play the “kids”……

Good lord, where to even start. 1st, gruden is a forgettable player at best. Have you even watched him play the past few games. He adds nothing. I’d rather send him down and bring up their new prospect they just got from the deadline and see what he has to offer. Sundquist was used extensively until he was traded. What are you even talking about? Blueger was the anchor of the 3rd line and penalty kill for years. Hextall trades him for nothing, not Sullivan, you.halfwit. Zohorna was here half a season in a prominent role and did nothing but… Read more »

Ok so for you “used extensively” and “named prominent roles and ice time” it’s 26 games over 2 seasons with TOI/G of 10:18 and 9:10?!? You should know your facts better before insulting people here… The list of players that Sullivan didn’t play, didn’t like and didn’t want goes on and on. And if you think Jim Rutherford, Ron Hextall and Kyle Dubas didn’t ask for his input before trading or not resigning a player, you don’t have a clue of what is going on with your team. Maybe your are the one who should follow another team, a bear… Read more »

Bemstrom will be next. Another failed experiment. Just because a players young and fast it doesn’t mean any good. I’ll reserve opinion on Poulin until we see him. Every other WBS call up has been nothingburgers.
