Big changes will be coming to the Edmonton Oilers but you may not see or notice them right away. New GM Ken Holland will first transform the organization which has been a perennial loser except for an unexpected run to the 2006 Stanley Cup Final. It took two overtime periods and a boatload of quality saves by Dallas Stars goalie Ben Bishop, but St. Louis finally won Game 7. And the trade rumors took a step forward yesterday as PHN was able to report specific interest in Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin.

Holland is going to shake up the Edmonton Oilers. He delivered a press conference short on promises but long on credibility, something Edmonton has lacked. Even some hardened journalists came away thinking Edmonton finally got it right (Sportsnet)

It was an emotional scene in St. Louis. Hometown boy Patrick Maroon scored the GWG in double overtime of Game 7. The city went crazy. Tears flowed. Patrick’s son knew too well what his dad had just done. GREAT read (St. Louis Post Dispatch)

I’d say geez, it’s only Round Two, but to hell with it–live it up, St. Louis. Go crazy. Believe. Enjoy. Bask and revel in it. St. Louis fans cannot be accused of front running. They’ve been there for decades and never lifted the Cup.

Ben Bishop was sensational for Dallas. They weren’t in the game. Not in the first period or the fifth period but still were a bounce away from the Western Conference Final. (Dallas Morning News)
