Penguins to Play in Hockeyville Preseason Game
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been tabbed to participate in a preseason game as part of the NHL’s Kraft Hockeyville promotion.
The Penguins will go on the road to northern Ontario to play the Ottawa Senators on Sept. 29 after the community of Elliot Lake, Ontario, was named the recipient of the promotion.
“Having grown up in northern Ontario, I understand how impactful the event will be for the people of Elliot Lake and the surrounding area,” Penguins president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas said in a press release.
“The investment in Elliot Lake and the game itself provide the Penguins with a great opportunity to contribute to the growth of the sport in an area of the world that truly loves ice hockey.”
This is the third time the Penguins will participate in a Kraft Hockeyville game. They played in the inaugural Kraft Hockeyville USA game at the Cambria War Memorial in Johnstown in 2015, and at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex on behalf of the Rostraver Ice Garden in 2017.
As part of the promotion, Elliot Lake will receive $250,000 for a upgrades to its Centennial Arena, and $10,000 worth of youth hockey equipment from the NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund.
Other details about the Sept. 29 game — including the exact venue, time and broadcast information — will be announced at a later date.
The Penguins’ full preseason and season schedules have not yet been announced.
