(Updated) Penguins Practice: Letang, Archibald Full Participants
Injured Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang appeared to be a full participant in practice Saturday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. So was forward Josh Archibald. Both were in regular jerseys after being in non-contact jerseys for Friday’s morning skate.
Letang noted, though, that there was not really contact in a practice that was more like a morning skate.
Letang and Archibald participated after again skating before practice, this time with defenseman Jan Rutta joining in for the half-hour session. It’s believed this was Rutta’s first time on the ice since he got hurt. He has missed the past three games. Forward Ryan Poehling again was in a regular jersey at practice.
That means all injured players except winger Kasperi Kapanen, who is out week to week, are at least skating.
The defense rotated during drills at practice, but Letang seemed to be working primarily with Ty Smith. Archibald did not seem to be part of a particular line. Letang did not take reps with the top power play unit but worked in some on the second unit.
Coach Mike Sullivan that Letang, Archibald, Rutta and Kapanen were not traveling with the team to New Jersey for a Sunday afternoon game.
The lines:
Jake Guentzel-Sidney Crosby-Bryan Rust
Jason Zucker-Evgeni Malkin-Rickard Rakell
Brock McGinn-Teddy Blueger-Jeff Carter
Drew O’Connor-Jonathan Gruden-Danton Heinen
(Josh Archibald, Ryan Poehling)
