Kyle Dubas Named Canada’s GM for World Championship

Pittsburgh Penguins president of hockey operations/general manager Kyle Dubas faces a busy offseason as he tries to get the team back into the playoffs. In the meantime, with the team out of the postseason this spring, Dubas will oversee Team Canada at the 2025 World Championship.
Dubas on Thursday was named the Canadian GM for the tournament, which will be held May 9-25 in Stockholm, Sweden, and Herning, Denmark. Penguins assistant GM Jason Spezza was named one of four members of a selection committee that will assist in evaluating and selecting players for Canada’s roster.
Dubas was part of the management team that oversaw Team Canada’s win at the recent 4 Nations Face-off tournament. He also was associate GM for the 2024 worlds.
Teams at the worlds usually are stocked with players whose NHL teams missed the playoffs or are outsted in the first round. That makes Penguins players prime targets for their countries’ teams. The top name would be center and team captain Sidney Crosby, who helped Canada win at the 4 Nations. The roster will be announced at a later date.
“Kyle is an excellent general manager, and his recent experience at the 4 Nations Face-Off and last year’s men’s worlds will be beneficial in building and leading Canada’s national men’s team as it looks to reclaim gold at the IIHF World Championship,” Doug Armstrong, who serves as the executive director of Canada’s national men’s team, said. “Kyle has great relationships with players and staff throughout the NHL, and as a member of management group for the 2026 Olympics, we are confident he is the best person to lead Team Canada in Stockholm and Herning this May.”
The coaching staff for Team Canada has not yet been announced.
Wow, doesn’t Canada know how bad he stinks? This is almost as bad as team USA picking the worst coach in history to coach the team! 🤣
Any single commenter in here would be a better GM or coach. Get it together Canada!!!
LOL!
Yeah, I bet he won’t even try to steal Jesse puljujarvi from Finland, even though he could play beast mode in team Canada top six.
The difference between Team Canada and the Penguins is that Canada has a bunch of young stars (Nadeau, Ritchie, Cowan, Martone, Yager, McKenna, Luchanko, Dickinson, Bonk, just to name a few). Dubas has the best at his disposal, not a mid to bottom NHL team with NO DEPTH.
Cool, just remember to fire Sullivan next Friday before you go.
