The Pittsburgh Penguins had momentum and the puck in overtime. A moment later, the game was over as Bryan Rust was shoved head-first into the wall at center without penalty. Carolina had a two-on-none breakaway the Penguins were seething. We’ve got locker room reaction, too. The Calgary fans got to say “hello” to Matthew Tkachuk. Ottawa Senators Alex Formenton is up against tomorrow’s 5 p.m. deadline to sign a contract. The Dallas Stars gave Roope Hintz a mega payday. It was fight night in Philly. And Jack Edwards had some fun at the expense of Pat Maroon’s waistline.

OK, I’m an old insult comic guy. I love a good roast, and my friends will tell you, nothing makes me laugh harder than when one of them takes the p*ss out of me.

However, you can imagine that Twitter and even Bruins fans were offended. Outraged! I’m sure there will be some finger-wagging comments below. The problem isn’t that someone people didn’t find them funny. It’s that they won’t let others enjoy a little levity, either.

I’ve come close enough to grabbing the third rail. Let’s get to hockey…

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: It was not a good ending. In pro wrestling terms, it probably qualified as a screwjob. The Penguins lost 3-2 in OT. The Penguins postgame.

PHN+: The Penguins grades. The power play was perhaps the worst it’s ever been, but the team did good things at even strength, especially in the third period. The Penguins grades.

Here’s what you want to see — the reaction from Bryan Rust (who was the subject of the hit at center ice) and Tristan Jarry. The Penguins locker room.

Oh by the way, a fourth Hurricane hopped onto the ice during the game-winning goal, realized he was the fourth, then jumped back on the bench. Even officials were focused on the uncalled hit.

Steelers Now:

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: A look at the 40-man roster. Can Pittsburgh Pirates corner Ke’Bryan Hayes improve at the plate?

NHL News & National Hockey Now:

Boston Hockey Now: “Intermittent fasting for Pat Maroon is like going four hours without a meal,” Jack Edwards roasted Lightning forward Patrick Maroon on the Boston Bruins telecast.

Ottawa Sun: Alex Formenton has to sign before Thursday at 5 p.m. to play in the NHL this season. Both sides are mum. Trade. Sign. Or hold the line. What will the Ottawa Senators do?

Calgary Hockey Now: A mixed reaction. Matthew Tkachuk returned “home” to face the Calgary Flames.

San Jose: Erik Karlsson and the San Jose Sharks beat Montreal, 4-0. But Karlsson and a possible trade are the talk of Canada. San Jose Sharks coverage.

Dallas: Cha-ching. Roope Hintz, who doesn’t get the attention he deserves because he’s hidden in Dallas, got a substantial payday from the Dallas Stars.

Washington: Start strong. Finish strong. Alex Ovechkin became the NHL’s all-time goals scored leader in road games (402), passing Wayne Gretzky. The Capitals beat Vancouver, and the Washington Capitals are winning again.

Philly: Fight! After the brawl with the Islanders over the weekend and a rematch on Tuesday, it took exactly seven seconds to resume the fisticuffs. Oh, the Flyers won the game, too. Sam Carchidi has some interesting video — check the fight between Zach MacEwen and Matt Martin. The Philly Flyers fight.

You can almost hear the punches land in the press box.

Sportsnet: The city officials voted unanimously FOR the new Coyotes arena in Tempe, AZ. However, now it goes to the voters.
