The Pittsburgh Penguins executed a minor trade Thursday that is unlikely to affect the NHL roster.

The organization dealt Corey Andonovski from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the St. Louis Blues organization in exchange for 24-year-old forward Mathias Laferriere.

Andonovski, 25, was an undrafted college free agent from Princeton who signed with the Penguins in 2021. He has not made his NHL debut. He’s only played 27 games this season, scoring three goals with five points.

Laferriere, 24, is a 6-foot-2, 181-pound forward who was St. Louis’s sixth-round pick in 2018. He has played 33 games with the Springfield Thunderbirds this season, tallying two goals, eight assists, and 10 points. Laferriere makes $775,000 at the NHL level.

Bummer. I like what I have seen of Andonovski, though I didn’t really see an NHL future for him in Pittsburgh.

Also, I was really hoping that this was a trade with the Checkers for Puljujarvi. j/k

Dubas just made WBS softer. Andonovski was a heavy hitter for the WB club. F’ing with their roster when they had things going, I read as pretty shitty. The forward they got, only thing I can see in his favor is one year younger.

I agree but maybe Laferriere is a smoother skater and better with the puck? I also liked Andonovski’s physicality, but in the games I have seen, he wasn’t always the best with the puck. Not sure if that meshes with what those of you who watch more WBS games think. I have only been watching now for a month.

Dubas holds true to his commitment of acquiring younger players, in this case (checks notes) by 1 year.

Clearly, Dan doing a live stream is the key to getting Kyle Dubas to make a trade
