For those of us who were there too many years ago, when a toothy, giggly 18-year-old Marc-Andre Fleury wowed the 16,000 Pittsburgh Penguins fans at the Civic Arena, this seems surreal. NBCsports analyst Keith Jones called Fleury one of the best goalies ever, Wednesday night. And he’s not wrong.

Beyond the praise for Fleury’s humanity, he’s a great goaltender. Thursday night, Fleury took another step towards etching his name among the greats when he passed Tony Esposito to become the ninth all-time winningest goaltender. Here’s the game story (USA Today)

But here is Fleury in the locker room (Sports Adrenaline)

Oh by the way, Fleury leads the league with 20 wins. He’s won everything else. Vezina? He’s just 13 wins behind Jacques Plante.

The Penguins made a push to land Max Domi over the summer. They were right. Last night Domi returned to Arizona and the difference in the player was obvious (Sportsnet)

Speaking of the “rumor mill”, the New York Rangers will be big players and could eat salary to make a deal with a contender (NBC)

The Philadelphia Flyers with a new coach, interim of course, and a goaltender are suddenly walking tall (NBCsports Philadelphia)

Interesting back story–it was the Winnipeg Jets Paul Maurice who vouched for Evander Kane to San Jose Sharks boss Pete DeBoer (Mercury News)

The Jets beat the Sharks, Thursday night with a hat trick by Nikolai Ehlers. This is important mostly because I have Ehlers on all of my fantasy teams and was getting worried about his production until recently.

Ehlers is good, but he’s no Bryan Rust, who has eight goals in his last six games including goals in four straight. Get the Penguins analysis and report card from their win over Minnesota–and why the win was significant (PHN Extra)
