Penguins Put Matthew Phillips on Waivers

Well, that didn’t take very long.

The Penguins have placed winger Matthew Phillips, who they claimed off waivers from Washington on Feb. 16, on waivers.

If he is unclaimed by 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Penguins will be able to assign him to their farm team in Wilkes-Barre, although they would not compelled to do so.

Phillips dressed for his first three games after joining the Penguins, but did not record a point in any of those. He had one goal and four assists in 27 games with the Capitals before they cut him loose.

The Penguins had hoped that Phillips, 25, could bolster their offense, but his impact has been negligible.

Phillips generated a total of four shots on goal during his three appearances, and has been a healthy scratch for the past five games.

Just too small for the NHL. He will thrive at WBS if he gets there. All the “fans” clamoring for “youth” over vets don’t realize there is a lot a nothing young players out there. Few of what is drafted in the low rounds ever evolves into a Sid. Just saying….
