Penguins News: Malkin IR, Puljujarvi Gets 2nd Chance

SAN JOSE, Calif. — The Pittsburgh Penguins had to do more roster shuffling Monday ahead of their game against the San Jose Sharks. The starting point for the moves is not good news as the team placed Evgeni Malkin on injured reserve.
Update: Coach Mike Sullivan said Malkin is out week-to-week.
Perhaps that’s a better-case scenario for Malkin, as the superstar center left the game Saturday in the first period against the Seattle Kraken after suffering a lower-body injury when he missed an open-ice hit on Chandler Stephenson.
With Malkin on IR and the team down to 12 healthy forwards, including Boko Imama, the Penguins recalled Jesse Puljujarvi who cleared waivers and was eventually assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Imama was recalled Saturday following the demotion of Owen Pickering, as well as the illness of Blake Lizotte and the lower-body injury to Bryan Rust.
Puljujarvi, 26, has three goals and six assists in 25 NHL games this season.
Update: Rust was on the ice for the morning skate.
