It’s a letdown the day after Halloween. I’m sure we’ll find some Pittsburgh Penguins had amazing costumes, and for the first time in a while, I liked mine, too. I really got into character. We’ll see if the Penguins get into character on Tuesday night as they host the Boston Bruins. We have the full upbeat practice report and notebook. Tage Thompson had six points, including a hat trick in the Buffalo Sabres’ win over the Detroit Red Wings. The heat is on in Toronto, and the “outside noise” is climbing towards a fever pitch.

“I’m a firm believer in the philosophy of a ruling class, especially since I rule” — Randal Graves.

I had to improvise and do French Onion Dip shark instead of Salsa Shark. Most of you probably have no idea what I’m talking about, and that’s just a reminder that I’m a dork who enjoys being a geek.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates (Sports Now Group PGH)

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: DOC is back with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jeff Carter suffered a still unspecified lower-body injury, and they needed a center who could kill penalties. Dave Molinari talked to Drew O’Connor, who is hitting his stride.

It’s tough to jet through five cities in nine days, three time zones, and return home. A few guys admitted to popping awake at 3 a.m. or staying up well past. Tuesday was new skates day and “go to the net” day. I rolled through the locker room with a few handshakes and chats. The room’s mood was not nearly as bad as on Saturday in Seattle. Here’s the complete Penguins notebook.

Kris Letang was sick. Jeff Carter is injured. Here’s the practice report with the new Penguins lines, too.

We have the daily Ice Guys podcast. Hockey. Sports betting. And a few laughs. The boys have some fun. Make sure to follow the podcast on Itunes or wherever you download.

Steelers Now:

  • A former Steelers lineman called for Matt Canada to be fired.
  • Mason Rudolph has not requested a trade and expects to remain with the Steelers.
  • Diontae Johnson didn’t criticize Matt Canada or speak out of turn. But he strongly hinted at all of it. Steelers locker room.

NHL News & National Hockey Now:

Montreal: It is refreshing when coaches and players speak bluntly. The Montreal media kept asking the same question about Evgenii Dadonov, who missed practice. Finally, coach Martin St. Louis had enough and told the reporters so. I think our boys enjoyed the verbal smackdown, too. Montreal Canadiens coverage.

Sportsnet: It’s getting hot in Toronto. The GM and coach are being called to account already. Are changes coming for the Maple Leafs?

TSN: Anaheim Ducks’ young star defenseman Jamie Drysdale will miss most of the season, if not all of it, after suffering a torn labrum.

Boston Hockey Now: Mike Sullivan’s future son-in-law, Charlie McAvoy, is closer to beginning his season. It’s a big deal, and he will be on the road trip, including Pittsburgh, to practice with the team. As if the Boston Bruins needed help.

Washington: T.J. Oshie is going to be out for a while again. It’s a shame for those of us who enjoy Oshie’s brand of hockey. However, Capitals’ prospect Connor McMichael, who has failed to claim a job thus far, will now get an “unbelievable” chance to establish himself with the Washington Capitals.

Colorado: You can join the debate. Nathan MacKinnon at No. 7?! The best Colorado Avalanche players of all time.

Detroit: Ouch. Don’t hurt ’em, Tage Thompson. The big man had six points, and Buffalo crushed the Detroit Red Wings.

Vegas: There were some spiffy costumes, and not so spiffy. Check out the Vegas Golden Knights Halloween party.

San Jose: Remember Erik Karlsson, one of the best defensemen in the league? A couple of down years turned into a few. In the anonymity of San Jose, we all forget about him. But (without Brent Burns), he’s back, in a big way, for San Jose. Erik Karlsson returns to elite levels.

I was in full character mode. This job would be great if it weren’t for the customers. It was bitterly disappointing that some people had no idea, “oh, you’re a grocery store guy?”

I hate selfies, but I had to make an exception:
