Dan’s Daily: Torts Doesn’t ‘Give a Flying (Crap),’ Penguins Trade Chip

Published

on

Philadelphia Flyers, John Tortorella, NHL trade talk, Pittsburgh Penguins news

There isn’t a more entertaining figure in hockey right now. Philadelphia Flyers coach John Tortorella doesn’t care what you think of him and had a colorful way of saying it. The Pittsburgh Penguins might have a trade chip, but the Winnipeg Jets squashed the Penguins Friday night. The Canucks’ drama keeps going as Jim Rutherford opened an investigation after an accusation that Tanner Pearson’s hand injury was mismanaged. The Colorado Avalanche are trying to find their heart, and the New York Islanders are coming to a crossroads with the NHL trade market.

No trade rumors today! Oh, and the NHL Central Scouting rankings have the least surprising news ever.

I finally finished my laundry from the roadie, eh, but my body is still on west coast time. Why are Taco Bell and suburban Denny’s the only place to get something resembling food after 10 p.m.? Does all of Pittsburgh eat dinner at 5 and hit the hay by 11?

An actual deli in the city wouldn’t hurt, either. If you want to start a business … a deli that’s open late with a good pastrami would get my wallet. Add a chai tea and some cupcakes, and I’ll just pay the rent (I guess this is why I love midtown Manhattan?)

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

PHN+: The locker room reaction — everyone had something they didn’t do and was honest about it. Go inside the Penguins’ locker room.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins have a surplus at only one position. Coach Mike Sullivan said Ty Smith is “Making a strong case.” Two players could equal one trade chip for the Penguins at the approaching NHL trade deadline.

Steelers Now:

Good point by Alan Saunders — The Steelers cannot let Kenny Pickett become the next Baker Mayfield.

The Arizona Cardinals need a head coach and want to interview Brian Flores.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

Welcome back. The Pirates reached into their “glory” days and signed Andrew McCutchen.

PBN+: From John Perrotto — So, how does McCutchen’s return affect Brian Reynolds?

NHL News, National Hockey Now

Philly Hockey Now: You have to love John Tortorella. He banned Ipads from the bench, and when asked how people might perceive him, he uttered, “I don’t give a flying sh*t…” Check out the Philadelphia Flyers.

NYI Hockey Now: The Pittsburgh Penguins’ nearest pursuer is at a crossroads. Buy now or sell soon. The New York Islanders need help.

Sportsnet: Jim Rutherford didn’t squash Quinn Hughes’ comments about the mismanagement of Tanner Pearson’s hand injury. He’s opening an investigation into the treatment.

Rutherford and GM Patrik Allvin won’t have to strip it down to the studs. It will happen naturally. This might be THE biggest dumpster fire I’ve seen.

Washington Hockey Now: Alex Ovechkin took a selfie with 800 students at Capitals practice.

Coach Peter Laviolette isn’t taking the recent downturn in stride. He impolitely shuffled the Capitals’ lines.

Boston Hockey Now: After a brilliant first half, the batteries are low for the Boston Bruins.

Colorado Hockey Now: The defending Stanley Cup champs are flirting with disaster. They’ve been missing their heart — can the Colorado Avalanche overcome?

Montreal Hockey Now: Least.Surprising.News.Ever. Guess who the consensus No. 1 draft-eligible prospect is? Cmon, take a wild shot in the dark. Yep, it’s Connor Bedard, and the Montreal Canadiens have picks.

yes, agreed, almost anyone. Thing is Sully doesn’t understand that aspect of the game nor I guess the rest of the staff? Pens goalies are not THE problem

Ric, worst defensive unit in NHL. Goalies are helpless. Soft, cannot clear crease.

As far as 3c, what about J.G. Pageau? The Isles are supposedly in on Horvat so they have to move some salary. If we could get them to retain some cape hit and somehow move Carter it might work. Maybe if they had someone like Pageau they wouldn’t be blowing all of these leads in the 3rd period.

Isn’t Primanti’s open late?

My go to places are either Dish Osteria (kitchen closes at 10:30, IIRC, but isn’t open Sun-Mon) and The Birmingham Bridge Tavern (kitchen usually open until 11, I believe, except Sundays)
