PIttsburgh Penguins, NHL trade, evander kane

The NHL is going to walk a tightrope without a net. There will be an All-Star Game in Las Vegas, and then almost everyone will hop a plane to Beijing for the Winter Olympics. And yes, there are some worries. The San Jose Sharks are pushing Evander Kane on the NHL trade block and are willing to eat salary. We also looked at what the Pittsburgh Penguins did right and what they need to improve.

I don’t think San Jose will have any luck, but they’re going to try.

San Jose Hockey Now: NHL trade chatter went to the bay. Elliotte Freidman was the first to report the Sharks will eat salary (and lots of it) to move Evander Kane.

As a previous defender of Kane, the allegations and actions over the past 12-24 months are too much. Some headaches are worth it. Kane is not–at least until he gets himself right.

Vegas Hockey Now: Good work by Owen Krepps–Comparing the Jack Eichel trade cost to past top-line center deals.

To hockey…

NHL News & National Hockey Now:

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins played three different games on their three-game road trip. What the Penguins did well, and what needs to improve.

Vancouver: The Penguins Wednesday night opponent–the Vancouver Canucks are in a bad way. Fans are so disgusted there’s a shock factor. Rob Simpson described the scene in Vancouver ahead of the Penguins game.

Sportsnet: Hockey Canada unveiled the new Team Canada sweaters for the para-Olympics and Olympic games.

It’s been a rough few days for jerseys.

TSN: The TSN Insiders have the scoop on the Olympic travel plans, including a flight straight from Las Vegas after the All-Star game. And there are plenty of COVID worries.

COVID is back–the Delta variant is a real SOB. Gentle reminder–Get your boosters, or be trapped at home for 10-12 days.

NYI: COVID breakthroughs are mounting with the Islanders. Their “hellish” week continues.

Boston: The Boston Bruins are scuffling a bit, too. They’re “down” with the Penguins in the wild-card fight. Coach Bruce Cassidy is tweaking the blue line pairs trying to light a fire.

Washington: With mounting injuries, the Capitals had to use Trevor van Riemsdyk at wing.

Montreal: Can the Canadiens stop getting crushed by their lack of penalty killing?

Colorado: Some howled the other night that Colorado was offside on a GWG. Well, it was offside–with the old rules. It was clean based on the new rules. Take a look.Â
