Dan’s Daily: Flyers Scout Avs Prospects (Giroux Trade?), USA Beats Canada!

pittsburgh penguins, claude giroux, nhl trade

The drumbeat on the NHL trade market surrounding Claude Giroux and the Colorado Avalanche got just a bit louder as the Philadelphia Flyers scouts took in a Colorado Eagles game on Friday night. Head coach Mike Sullivan. Giroux, Jacob Chychrun, and Marc-Andre Fleury fill the top spots on TSN’s NHL trade bait list. Brad Marchand is appealing his six-game suspension for snapping on Tristan Jarry, and Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan indicated that Kasperi Kapanen and Evgeni Malkin would skate together again on Sunday.

First, Malkin is a game-time decision though everyone expects him to play.

Sullivan made his comments after the optional practice on Friday. For better and worse, Sulivan is going to jumpstart Kapanen’s season and what better center than Malkin?

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand appealed his six-game punishment for popping Jarry. He said the incident was suspension-worthy. Pittsburgh Penguins news.

I discussed and debated the incident, Malkin, Kapanen, and more with Jeff Hatthorn during my latest appearance on 93-7 the Fan to discuss all things Penguins.

And–Casey DeSmith submitted his second straight strong start on Thursday. What does that mean for GM Ron Hextall, the team, and the Penguins’ plans at the NHL trade deadline?

NHL Trade Bait, News & National Hockey Now:

Philly: Claude Giroux trade chatter is growing. Scouts descended upon the Colorado Eagles (Avalanche AHL affiliate) game Friday night, including the Philadelphia Flyers.

TSN: The annual NHL Trade bait list is up. Fleury, Giroux, and other big names made the board. No Penguins yet.

Boston: A dark horse team to watch–With Fleury and Giroux out there–both solve the NHL trade market needs for the Boston Bruins.

Vegas: Is a trade coming? Can they avoid trading core pieces to activate Jack Eichel? Here’s the full scoop on the cap crunch and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Seattle Kraken GM Ron Francis will sit down with defenseman Mark Giordano to talk trade and where he wants to go

ESPN: Team USA and Daniel Winnick beat Team Canada at the Olympics. Do you believe in Miracles?

Washington: You know how meticulous Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is with his conditioning. Alex Ovechkin drinks Dr. Pepper, eats subs, and trains? Sammi Silber got the weird scoop about from the captain of the Washington Capitals.

I must’ve drank 15 Dr. Peppers…

NYI: Stick a fork in the Isles. They’re about done. They lost (LOST!) to the Edmonton Oilers, and the hole for the New York Islanders gets deeper.

I don’t see a major move by Pittsburgh. But they do need some inexpensive brawn for a possible series vs Boston, Washington , or another if a longer run is in the offing So who might be available cheap? Well Deslaurius is set to be a Free Agent this summer I believe? He could be a health scratch vs a skating team and dress instead of Domineeeek Seeemone vs a physical team. He makes a million / yr what could Pit offer for him? Is there anyone else perhaps a Defenseman with size who might work? Kurtis Macdermid? IDK but… Read more »

Not really sure the Pens NEED to do anything if healthy. We are deep across the board. I am fine with CDS as backup and we are strong at forwards and defense. If healthy we can deal from strength, perhaps get a few draft picks.

You may want to look at the first paragraph, something isn’t reading right

How about looking at Luke Schenn out in Vancouver. Signed through next year at a very affordable 850k. At 6’ 2” / 225 he would add depth at RHD and could be the big D-man to clear the front of the net. He’s not going to give much offensive production, but could be part of a solid 3rd pairing. He was good enough to play some games for Tampa during their cup runs. So maybe he can do that here.

D.P. is by far and away the tastiest soda on the market. No other pop couples as well with spicy food as well. Ovechkin is right about this–and I’m not sure he has many teeth left to worry about rotting out!
