Dan’s Daily: Eichel Rips Buffalo Fans, Kapanen to be Scratched?

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins, Kasperi Kapanen

Dude, bad form. Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel may have vented a little residual anger, but he took a pretty good swipe at Buffalo Sabres fans. Pittsburgh Penguins winger Kasperi Kapanen was rotating on the fourth line at practice on Thursday, a sign that he or Zach Aston-Reese will be getting press box nachos on Friday against Vegas. Scouts break down the bargain defensemen on the NHL trade block, and the Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes could be hooking up, too.

Jaromir Jagr gave Ovechkin a friendly chirp. And we dove into the Penguins and Vancouver Canucks NHL trade rumors.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: What makes sense and what doesn’t? The Penguins are Vancouver Canucks are circling each other. The Vancouver media are tossing out names, but not everything fits. We break down the Pittsburgh Penguins trade chatter.

Mike Matheson was a full go at practice, and Kasperi Kapanen rotated on the fourth line. Shelly Anderson has the whole story. Penguins practice.

The Penguins signed Princeton winger Corey Andonovski after a bit of a breakout season. I appreciate the ‘ski.’ Get highlights and full deets on the new Penguins prospect.

PHN+: And–how are the players and head coach Mike Sullivan dealing with the NHL trade deadline?

From the Vancouver side–the Canucks deadline: wins, trades, and contracts must fit needs. Vancouver Canucks decisions.

Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens and Hurricanes are chatting. Montreal has a few players who could bolster the Hurricanes, but who could Montreal swipe from Carolina? Montreal Canadiens analysis.

Carolina getting stronger should scare the Penguins…

Sportsnet: This is a deep dive of the bargain bin defensemen on the NHL trade block, including Robert Hagg, who we believe would fit the Penguins.

I have press box nachos. Jeff Marek likes rink fries. Here are 36 interesting candidates to watch leading up to the deadline.

Vegas: Boy, oh boy, Jack Eichel didn’t spare the Sabres fans. He ripped them good Thursday night after they gave him the Jaromir Jagr treatment–they booed every time he touched the puck. Vegas Golden Knights postgame.

NY Post: All is not well with the New York Rangers, according to Larry Brooks.

And, my favorite story today…

Washington: “Come on, Ovi,” Jaromir Jagr tweeted. Jagr, who has been raising piles of cash to help Ukraine, obviously isn’t holding that against the formerly Putin-friendly Ovechkin. Washington Capitals news.

NHL network said that Eichel was greeted warmly by Buffalo fans. What is the truth?

There was a mix of applause and boos when he first came onto the ice. He was roundly booed every time he touched the puck during the game. He had an opportunity to be gracious post-game, but decided to burn bridges instead. If he thinks he was booed loudly this time, wait until his next game there. Glad the Sabers won!

It was an amazing game. Boos whenever he touched the puck… and cheers when he’d get laid out by a check. Buffalo fans were loving it last night! Then Krebbs & Tuch both scored goals in the win! Anderson got his 300th win… what a game! Eichel changed his name to Johnny Tavares Jr. after the game.

I not that moved by Hagg and I think there’s a lot more interest trading with Vancouver I personally would luv if the pens would get Luke Schenn pens could use that physicality and a guy that can clear the net for Jarry and mix it up if he has too and he is on the cheap.

Hagg looked pretty good last night, I don’t think I’d mind if he was cheap.

I am trying to think under what circumstance Eichel could possibly give a rats behind about what Buffalo fans think of him . . . or how loudly they boo him He does not strike me as a warm or friendly guy and he gets mixed reviews as a teammate, but he is now in Vegas with a very attractive income and a repaired neck.so I am guessing he is not longing for Buffalo much these days. As for Kapanen. . . . I could do without much more discussion. He is a textbook underperformer . . . he is… Read more »

Sabres fan here. The Sabres have been an unprofessional organization for such a long time…they mishandled so many things over the years…and they actually tried to lose and “succeeded.” So now they’re permanently in the basement. Both the Sabres and Eichel have been villains here. I have only one wish for Eichel; I don’t care if he scores again or even wins the Stanley Cup. My wish for this man, and I use the term loosely, is to get and stay completely healthy like he was before.
