Dan’s Daily: Capitals & Canadiens Trade Chatter, Robo Penguins Homage

Published

Pittsburgh Penguins, Jason Zucker, NHL trade

Pittsburgh Penguins great Jaromir Jagr thanked Jason Zucker for his homage salute and dropped a little chirp, too. Despite the Zucker salute, the Penguins are mired in a six-game winless streak. Dave Molinari offered some praise for Jake Guentzel’s maturity. The Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens could be partners on the NHL trade market. The New Jersey Devils scored two third-period goals in seven seconds to beat the Edmonton Oilers, and how serious is Ryan Reynolds about buying the Ottawa Senators?

Later this morning, we’ll publish our big Penguins mailbag. Fair warning: it will be honest. It won’t pile on scapegoats, but it does answer your questions and concerns as best I can without pandering or defending.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates (Sports Now Group PGH)

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Jaromir Jagr posted a video honoring the robo-Penguins logo, Jason Zucker, the salute celebration, and had a little fun at Zucker’s expense. The great Jaromir Jagr speaks.

Dave Molinari was impressed (and that isn’t easy). After the Penguins blew another third period lead, not only did Sidney Crosby face the media for the third day in a row, but so did a stand-up Jake Guentzel.

The Penguins are winless in six games, and a couple of new teams are playing well and climbing in the Metro Division. The Penguins are 14th in the standings, and it’s time to start watching (with a little bit of worry about) the NHL standings.

Steelers Now:

NHL Trade, News, & National Hockey Now

Washington Hockey Now: The Capitals and Canadiens are a good match and have had preliminary contacts about a trade. The Washington Capitals need forwards.

Montreal: Evgenii Dadonov was placed on IR retroactively. The Montreal Canadiens are buying time.

TSN: The internet exploded when Ryan Reynolds teased interest in buying the Ottawa Senators. Is it legit? Kind of.

As the Ottawa Sun reported, Reynolds is only worth $150 million, just enough money for a two-bedroom apartment in LA and only one ex-wife. That’s a long way to buying an NHL team. But it would be cool for Deadpool to own an NHL team.

Sportsnet: The New Jersey Devils kept winning (bad news for the Penguins). They scored twice in seven seconds, late in the third period, to beat Edmonton.

NYI: More bad news for the Pittsburgh Penguins and the standings. The Islanders won, 5-2, over the St. Louis Blues. The game featured the best (or worst) of Jordan Binnington, who agitated, flopped, and amused the Islanders.

Western Conference:

Colorado: The Avalanche are playing Columbus twice in Finland this week. A couple of thousand people attended practice on Thursday. It’s quite the event, and we have a reporter in Finland. The Colorado Avalanche travels.

Dallas: A quick start by the Dallas Stars put away the Coyotes.

LA Hockey Now: Our new site! We’ll have coverage of the LA Kings — And Adrian Kempe is proving last year’s goal explosion was no fluke.

Calgary: Penguins fans aren’t the only ones unhappy. Flames fans let their team have it after the Calgary Flames’ 4-1 loss to Nashville.
