Dan’s Daily: Kessel Becomes a Dad, Ovi Ties Jagr, Penguins Anti-Trade Rumor

Kris letang, Alex Ovechkin, Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL trade rumors

The Pittsburgh Penguins never led against the Florida Panthers. They rallied to tie the game early in the second period but lost to another top-tier team. PHN also broke the bad news, or call it the anti-trade rumor, though some fans immediately read more into it. Should Montreal bring back P.K. Subban? We know he likes Boston, too. Auston Matthews hat tricked Seattle as Jared McCann got paid. And Josh Manson is drawing big interest on the NHL trade front.

Alex Ovechkin tied Jaromir Jagr for third in all-time goals. And what an awful time to do it.

I always default to Dennis Miller doing the news on SNL… “Good evening, what can I tell ya?”

Pittsburgh Hockey Now (video): Watch the Penguins postgame video (we corrected the overnight settings error which made it unavailable). I’m not sure you want all of the insights, but we broke down the Pittsburgh Penguins game from PPG.

PHN+: The complete, in-depth, unflinching, give-no-quarter Penguins postgame breakdown with the chalkboard and player grades. Absentee scoring, net-fronts, and issues piling up. The Pittsburgh Penguins report card.

And, the cold water: A PHN source with direct knowledge said the Penguins kicked the tires on Brock Boeser, but it stopped there. Get the full story–yes, the Penguins broached the idea, but NHL trade rumors are overblown.

Florida: Here’s the FLA win from the Florida Panthers side.

Sportsnet: Congrats, Phil Kessel. He became a daddy, but first, he played one shift for the Arizona Coyotes to keep his iron man streak alive before bolting home.

I’m curious if fatherhood will change his outlook on the game and his career.

NHL Trade Chatter, News & National Hockey Now:

Is anyone else disappointed with S4 of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? Tony Shalhoub and Rachael Brosnahan have fantastic banter often over each other, and Alex Borstein steals the season, but…can we get there a little faster? More Lenny Bruce stories. Eventually, spin-off Susie. Her and the mobsters? I’m down. But let’s pick it up. Anyway…

Philly: The Washington Capitals are heavily scouting the Flyers AHL team in Lehigh Valley. Could Washington be a player for Claude Giroux, Rasmus Ristolainen, JVR, or…Get the Philadelphia Flyers trade chatter.

TSN: Back to NHL trade rumors. Josh Manson will soon return to the ice, but it may be in a different city. Lots of interest.

Thinking back–we talked about the Pittsburgh Penguins chasing Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett. They looked pretty good against the Penguins on Tuesday night. Manson is another of those guys perpetually linked to the team, but the Penguins are at the counter with 50 cents in their pocket, and everything on the menu is a dollar.

NYI Hockey Now: Marc-Andre Fleury is on the market, he’s off the market, he’s maybe in, maybe out… Perhaps the best goalie available will be Semyon Varlamov of the New York Islanders.

Boston Hockey Now: The Bruins want some thump on the blue line, and it looks like San Jose defenseman Jacob Middleton is drawing Boston Bruins interest.

Montreal: P.K. Subban back to the Montreal Canadiens?

NHL.com: Seattle Kraken signed Jared McCann to a pretty, pretty good five-year. $25 million deal.

Washington: So much subtext that shouldn’t exist. Watch Ovechkin tie Jaromir Jagr for third on the NHL’s all-time goals scored list: Alex Ovechkin goal.

It’s a complicated moment if you know why Jagr wears No. 68–and for a Russian to tie his mark now? Yikes. Putin should have a seat at The Hague for shelling civilians. Ideally, that seat is hooked to 10,000 volts, but jail is OK.

That’s the news, and I am outta here…
