The Pittsburgh Penguins are not the only team paring down their roster and as other teams do so, a few players are hitting the trade market. NHL trade rumors are sure to follow. There is also a great story on the Associated Press about hockey getting people to put down their phones. Apparently, that is possible. The US women’s team and Team Canada are set for a Rivalry Series and are captains really important in the NHL?

The Penguins sliced 19 players from their training camp with just two preseason games and a week to go before the regular season. There are some players left still fighting for jobs (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

Other teams are struggling with their cuts, including Columbus. It looks like Sonny Milano’s time is done in Buckeye shadow (The Athletic)

Edmonton is trying to trade defenseman Matt Benning, which should spawn a few NHL trade rumors (The Athletic)

Good luck trying to trade a back pairing d-man, eh?

Another one of the big-name RFAs finally signed. Brayden Point inked a bridge deal in Tampa (Tampa Bay Times)

Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen is the last big-name without a contract and that doesn’t sound like it’s close.

Are captains necessary in the NHL? Players debate and it’s not a unanimous decision. (TSN)

The Associated Press did a cool story on cell phones, the NHL and in-game experience. Going to a hockey game is one thing which can make people tear their head out of their phones. The San Jose Sharks claim their biggest competition is Netflix. (AP)
