Dan’s Daily: Trouba Fights Tkachuk, Why the Penguins are Inconsistent

Pittsburgh Penguins, NHL trade talk, Jacob Trouba

Why are the Pittsburgh Penguins inconsistent? The Penguins may have the best or worst problem in the NHL. There was a healthy captains fight at center ice as New York Rangers d-man Jacob Trouba had to drop the mitts against the Ottawa Senators Brady Tkachuk. Who are the five San Jose Sharks who will wind up on the NHL trade block? Conor Sheary has found a home with the Capitals, the Golden Knights defense is lost, and the Arizona Coyotes failed to close the deal for Sean Monahan.

It should be a fun weekend, eh? The Penguins have the St. Louis Blues tonight at PPG — two old teams that hit hard times in later October through November and two teams who snapped out of those struggles with a vengeance. Just a note for fans — attendance at the arena has been pretty sparse. This time I’m not throwing any shade. The city, or PennDot, decided it was a good idea to tear up the entire area around the arena all at once. My seven-minute commute has become about 20. I’d recommend taking the T from the Northside or parking downtown and walking up 5th Ave. Give yourself a few extra minutes and enjoy the evening.

If you need a good dinner spot, let me know. I definitely recommend using the tickets. From a hockey perspective, the Penguins are playing a great brand of hockey.

Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins have a problem. They seem to exist unto themselves, unaffected by external circumstances. Through a seven-game winless streak, and a five-game winning streak, here is the Penguins‘ problem.

World Cup Betting — USA vs. Netherlands at 10 a.m. Here’s the DraftKings promo.

Steelers Now:

  • Vegas is warming to the Steelers against the Falcons. The Steelers are now favored. Get the Steelers odds.
  • But there’s bad news — Jaylen Warren and T.J. Watt are questionable on the Steelers’ injury report.
  • Nick Farabaugh writes — Congrats, Terrell Edmunds, you get it!

Pittsburgh Baseball Now:

  • The Pirates lost three players to waivers. They had three players others wanted? The Pittsburgh Pirates?
  • PBN+: There’s still one guy dreaming of October. I love John Perrotto’s work. Check out his Pirates coverage.

NHL Trade Stories, News & National Hockey Now:

Montreal Hockey Now: The Canadiens are having a blast with Sean Monohan, but they almost missed out. Montreal was never the favorite, even on the last day. Another team was supposed to complete the trade. Canadiens trade story.

Boston Hockey Now: No contract yet, but Jimmy Murphy got the scoop. The Boston Bruins and David Pastrnak are still talking.

San Jose Hockey Now: The five San Jose Sharks who could / will end up on the NHL trade block.

Brady Tkachuk had a Gordie Howe Hat Trick, but the big moment — here you go — captains fight at center ice. Jacob Trouba and Tkachuk threw down:

Detroit Hockey Now: It’s bad but not terrible — the Red Wings released more info on the injury to Tyler Bertuzzi.

Dallas: Jason Robertson is a monster this season. However, a couple of other players are also pushing the Dallas Stars back to contention.

Sportsnet: And the latest 32 Thoughts is out. They talked a bit about Kris Letang (no trade rumors) and what’s next for the Flyers. 32 Thoughts.

And I know we still have a few Conor Sheary fans here (looking at you, Melissa Hart). It’s been three years. Sheary had a baby on the way and no job. The season was approaching. Then … the Washington Capitals called.
