Dan’s Daily: The Oakland Coyotes? Evander Kane…Just Wow

NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins, evander kane

It is Day 20 without any Pittsburgh Penguins news that pertains to the on-ice product. It’s also been a few weeks since the NHL trade market stirred. Today’s hockey news includes some stomach-turning stuff you don’t want to know about Evander Kane, the city of Oakland, California, is courting an NHL team, and Team USA’s Hilary Knight became the all-time leading Women’s World Championships scorer, surpassing Cammi Granato.

I began digging into the Penguins’ offseason plans and paths. I was really surprised by the contrast between former GM Jim Rutherford and Ron Hextall.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Rutherford made more trades in his final 18 months than Hextall made in four years as the Flyers GM. For good or bad, we compared the Penguins’ GMs, looked at the lineup holes, and Brian Burke, too.

NHL News & National Hockey Now

The Athletic: I really try not to make value judgments about people I don’t know, especially athletes who live in a fishbowl, because God blessed them with the skills we all want and the drive to succeed. Say the wrong thing? We all do. Make a mistake? Ok, make amends. But…Evander Kane is not distinguishing himself as a good human being. A judge OK’d discovery into a lawsuit that he promised a woman $2 million to have their third abortion, then annulled the deal after the fact.

There’s just so much wrong with that entire situation…

NHL.com: Back to hockey. The folks at NHL.com laid out the Pittsburgh Penguins offseason additions, subtractions, and Adam Kimelman took a shot at what the Penguins lines may look like.

The Oakland Coyotes??

Boston: Our man Joe Haggerty had plenty of dealings with Jimmy Hayes, who passed away this week at 31-years-old, including when Hayes threw the pretend monkey off his back at Haggerty. A good read.

Detroit: Longtime scribe Bob Duff recalled Tony Esposito, Rod Gilbert, and…Andy Warhol. Death has touched our writers this week.

Also in Motor City–How will rookie Moritz Seider’s rookie season compare to the all-time great D-men?

And–Valteri Filppula has departed the NHL for Switzerland.

The Hockey News: Knight became the all-time leading Women’s World Championship scorer, and Team Canada is rolling. The US isn’t doing too badly either.

Washington: It was an NHL trade deadline shocker when the Washington Capitals traded Jakub Vrana, and draft picks to Detroit for Anthony Mantha–so, just what will Washington get, and what will the Pittsburgh Penguins face with Mantha?

Colorado: The Colorado Avalanche may have upgraded in goal over Vezina finalist Philip Grubauer? Some fans surely think so.

San Jose: Wow–check out this state-of-the-art arena in San Jose for the AHL Barracuda.

Editor’s note: Thanks to a couple of readers who noticed our error–Hilary Knight plays for Team USA. Our original version listed Team Canada.
