Dan’s Daily Links: Pavel Datsyuk Coming Back and Yzerman to Oilers?

Steve Yzerman will be the most sought general manager candidate until persistent presumptions he is waiting for the Detroit Red Wings job are sated or until he moves onward. There seems to be a high profile GM job open right now, so cue the intrigue. Former Red Wings captain and Selke winner Pavel Datsyuk may be back on NHL ice and guess which former Pittsburgh Penguins coach is being mentioned as a candidate as the next LA Kings head coach?

Today we’ll begin with something which makes the most sense but is also the most improbable: Steve Yzerman becoming the Edmonton Oilers next GM (Sportsnet)

Now, my two cents: If Yzerman’s family didn’t move to Tampa Bay, it seems unlikely they would move to the northernmost city in the NHL. Edmonton is only 900 miles (1448 km) from the arctic circle. If Disney didn’t lure the family, weekends in Yellow Knife probably won’t either.

Also circling Detroit, Pavel Datsyuk could return. Fortunately for all involved, his contractual rights which are currently held by Arizona expire on July 1, so he would be free to return to Detroit–the only place he will consider (Detroit Free Press)

The countdown to the rebuild and clean sweep in LA has begun. Jewels from the Crown published a list of coaching candidates who could assume the permanent mantle if/when Willie Desjardins is not retained. The top name is one you’ll recognize. (Jewels From the Crown)

The mid-term draft rankings are out…Jack Hughes is still the top dog but the gap is narrowing. However, concerning to our friends to the north–the top-ranked Canadians are fourth and fifth (TSN)

Check out this expert level troll from Vegas on Nashville. As long as they don’t make a crack about amplifying sound, they’ll be fine (12up)
