Dan’s Daily: Penguins PK Miscomms, Rutherford Rips Canucks

Published

on

Pittsburgh Penguins, Jake Guentzel, NHL Trade

Batten down the hatches and damn the torpedoes. The hockey world moved on Monday, and the aftershocks are not over. The Boston Bruins admitted their mistake, and president Cam Neely fell on his sword. Our Jimmy Murphy asked THE question of the press conference. Jim Rutherford blasted his Vancouver Canucks and said changes are coming. Get ready for big moves on the NHL trade market. And in actual on-ice conversation, the Pittsburgh Penguins PK suffers from several issues, including a lack of communication.

Dave Molinari also welcomed Pittsburgh fans to how the other half lives.

Later today, I head for D.C., then off to Toronto and Montreal. Both Dave and I will be in D.C. as the Penguins try to break their seven-game winless streak. Oddly, the season feels like it hangs in the balance over the next couple of weeks. Four days and 23 hours of driving certainly tests anyone’s ability to put up with themselves (and smells). Pittsburgh Penguins / Steelers, Pirates

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: When will the PK get better? Dave talked to Mike Vellucci (another PHN exclusive) and members of the PK. Here’s what’s up with the Penguins penalty-killing.

You’re spoiled. Yep. Dave Molinari welcomes Pittsburgh to how the other half lives. Not every team is a contender. Sometimes, teams lose. Welcome to it, Steelers and Penguins fans.

Monday, the Penguins recalled Filip Hallander.

Steelers Now:

  • Don’t look now, the Colts fired Frank Reich.
  • It will be a hard reset. Expect a different defense when T.J. Watt returns.
  • WR Steven Simms recalled when a coach told him he’d never be anything. Steelers Locker Room.

Pittsburgh Baseball Now: From the desk of John Perrotto — three free agents who fit the Pittsburgh Pirates.

NHL Trade, News & National Hockey Now

Boston Hockey Now: THE story today. Jimmy Murphy asked president Cam Neely if the Bruins were misled about prospect Mitchell Miller. Neely said he couldn’t respond to that for legal reasons, but then Jimmy hit him with, “is this your biggest regret as a Bruin?” The answer was yes. The story from the Boston Bruins press conference.

Sportsnet: cue the NHL trade chatter. Jim Rutherford again criticized his Vancouver Canucks.

It was not a good night for the Penguins in the standings.

Washington Hockey Now: Evgeny Kuznetsov had four points, and the Washington Capitals beat the Oilers.

Also, watch: Recently claimed Nicolas Aube-Kubel LEVELED Evander Kane.

And … uh oh … Tom Wilson is skating.

NYI: Another comeback win. The Flames were the victim this time as the New York Islanders rallied for a 4-3 win.

Philly: Coach John Tortorella is not a happy camper with defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen. Philadelphia Flyers coverage.

San Jose: Sometimes, it takes the right fit. Ryan Strome is grateful to coach David Quinn. Some good news for the San Jose Sharks.

Vegas: Viva Las Vegas. Jack Eichel is finally getting into his career groove. The VGK are off to their best start ever. Coach Bruce Cassidy is pushing Eichel to be more like Patrice Bergeron. Owen Krepps has a pretty cool Vegas Golden Knights story.
