Phil Kessel, NHL trade, Pittsburgh Penguins

On the second day of the NHL season, a handful of the league’s superstars posted eye-poppers, including Connor McDavid’s hat trick. Not only is Pierre-Luc Dubois stirring the NHL trade talk trying for greener pastures beyond Columbus, but it sure sounds like teams are calling Florida about Aleksander Barkov. And, we finally got an answer about Pittsburgh Penguins center Mark Jankowski’s nickname.

Tans is Brandon Tanev, in case you were wondering.

Speaking of Mark Jankowski, he and Mike Matheson made their Pittsburgh Penguins debuts on Wednesday. Here’s the good, the bad, and how it can improve for Matheson (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

The Florida Panthers may be chum in the water. Keith Yandle seems to be the first one to catch a flight out of town, but the TSN Insiders added Barkov to the NHL trade talk, too (TSN)

Could the Boston Bruins land Dubois? They’ve been hitting the NHL trade market for a star talent all offseason (Boston Hockey Now)

Connor McDavid had a beauty of a hat trick. Patrik Laine ignored the NHL trade (that his side started) and ripped a three-point night. Mathew Barzal stickhandled through Anthony DeAngelo… It was a good night for the stars (NBCsn)

Phil Kessel scored with just three seconds left to force overtime, but Evander Kane had three points, and the San Jose Sharks beat the Coyotes (TSN)

Our Sheng Peng has been in AZ (the Sharks had camp and began their season in AZ). Here is the Sharks analysis (San Jose Hockey Now)

In Nashville, my least favorite hockey tradition took a new turn. The catfish on the ice halted the game — but this time, it was wearing a mask (Sportsnet)

Matt Calvert is wearing a pink mask this season. No, it’s not a political statement or a fashion choice. It’s a necessity (Colorado Hockey Now)

And there you go…  Penguins Game 2 vs. Philadelphia Flyers tonight. We’ll have coverage all day, including the postgame recaps, the postgame analysis, and everything else that needs to be known.
